AFTERCARE ADVICE
Aftercare of your new tattoo is your responsibility. You should follow the advice given to you by your Artist, below is general advice, if you have any questions always contact your artist direct.
Typically the artist will cover and protect your new tattoo with ‘second-skin’ sticker. The second-skin is the best thing to protect your tattoo, we advise you to leave on for a maximum of 4 days.
The second-skin is waterproof so showering is no problem, it is a one time use only product, so once it is off then it can not be re-used. Please do not pierce your sticker, it is completely normal for a blister or liquid to form inside, just leave it alone, it will do disperse on its own.
If the sticker peels back and is exposing any part of the tattoo, then please remove immediately and start the cleaning process.
For larger tattoos we may use ‘cling-film’, this should stay on for 1-4 hours, longer is possible if you wish.
Once the second-skin or cling-film is removed you will need to wash your new tattoo straight away, we recommend using a non-fragrance soap and warm water. Do not be shy when cleaning the tattoo, you want all the dry ink, blood, plasma, etc to be gone.
Once it is clean you will need to pat dry your tattoo, ideally use paper/kitchen towels.
Once dry, you can apply one thin layer of 'tattoo-suitable' cream, we recommend you researching first which cream is best. Generally applying only once a day for the first three days, always lightly wash the tattoo before applying a new thing layer of cream. Please note that using too much cream is not good, it will suffocate your tattoo and will keep it moist and not allowing it to heal. Use a little or even no cream. For this reason some artist may even recommend using no cream.
After a few days your new tattoo will want to scab, this is good and you should avoid using any creams at this stage, doing so will encourage the scabs to come off to soon and pull ink out with it, resulting in damaging your new tattoo.
In total your tattoo will take anywhere from 7-14 days to heal, all depending on the tattoo and your body immune system. In the healing process please DO NOT;
-Use creams, moisturisers, make up or any thing similar on your tattoo.
-Submerge your tattoo into water or similar, this includes any form or swimming too. Your tattoo needs to stay dry and clean, your tattoo may get wet, just not soaked.
-Expose to the sun. Try keep it covered with clothing as it may not be healed enough to apply sun-cream.
-Wear tight clothes or any thing that may rub or stick onto your new tattoo. This rule also applies to bed linen. Tattoos with excess cream or moisture will easily stick to fabrics, ultimately causing damaging.
-Once again, no not touch or scratch the scabs. If it is itchy then just give it a slap.
-Play sports or other physical activities after your appointment.
For more information, advise or if you have a question, then please use the contact form or email your Artist direct.*
Thank you for reading and good luck with your new tattoo.
Please remember that your new tattoo is an open wound and should be treated like any other cut or injury.
*Caution. Seek medical advise should the tattoo react in anyway unusual, such as; extreme redness, swelling, bleeding, wound fluid, colour change, chronic pain or any obvious ink rejection from skin.
